Clinical Approach

Prioritizing evidence-based substance abuse treatment.

More than just a high-end rehab center, Ocean Drive is a leading provider of addiction and behavioral health care for affluent individuals and families. Our clinical approach is characterized by evidence-based inpatient substance abuse treatment that’s tailored to address each client’s unique physical, emotional, and psychological needs.

Our philosophy

We believe that the most effective care is individualized, comprehensive, and focused on the whole family. Central to our philosophy is the notion that we believe in treating the whole family, meaning that we treat clients and family members simultaneously in an effort to recalibrate the family system.

Using comprehensive batteries of psychological and medical testing, we establish individualized treatment plans for both clients and family members. Plans meticulously target underlying pathologies and co-occurring disorders that drive the addictive process and destructive behaviors. Learn more about Assessment & Treatment Planning.

Lastly, we strive to meet the psychological, emotional, physical, and spiritual needs of every person who comes to us for help. In addition to psychodynamic modalities, we incorporate spiritual support, fitness and nutrition, relaxation, and real-world exposure into everyday life at Ocean Drive. Throughout treatment, clients and families gain the coping tools they need to continue pursuing recovery in their home environments.

What we treat

Our clinical approach to behavioral healthcare targets more than symptoms of addiction. We treat all process and substance addictions, mental health disorders, and other behavioral health issues, including:

  • Addiction Interaction Disorder
  • Co-occurring disorders
  • Trauma & PTSD
  • Work fatigue

Though most of our clients present with process addictions or substance disorders, we do treat individuals and families for whom behavioral health issues are the primary concern.

Treating attachment disorder is commonly a top priority for clients and family members. Attachment disorder is a diminished ability to form healthy, reliable relationships and/or the tendency to form unhealthy, unreliable ones. One manifestation is turning away from family to rely on drugs, alcohol, or other destructive behaviors.

In conjunction with client care, we treat family members for their own behavioral health issues, including but not limited to:

  • Lack of intimacy
  • Emotional neglect
  • Poor communication
  • Co-dependence
  • Trauma related to abuse or neglect
  • Anxiety
  • Uncertainty
  • Trust issues

Residential Family Restructuring Program
Our Residential Restructuring Program addresses family dynamics. This intensive five-day program allows issues such as trauma, internalized messages, communication difficulties, entitlement, and enabling to come to the surface so they can be worked through. Even if their loved one is not in treatment, family members reap the benefits of the program by working on unaddressed family issues.

Medical services

Depending on clinical need, our resident neuropsychologist, psychiatrist, and addiction medicine specialist may recommend:

  • Addiction medicine evaluations to comprehensively examine how substance abuse has affected the client’s mind, body, and behaviors
  • Neuroimaging (MRI, CT, or SPECT scans) which provides pictures of the brain that allow clinicians to view addiction-induced damage and tailor treatment accordingly
  • Trauma & PTSD
  • Neuropsychological testing, which is a three-day battery of cognitive, projective, and personality tests
